A Little About Me

Me in Morro Bay, Calif., in 2009.

My name is Cassandra, but I mostly go by Cassy (pronounced like Cassie but spelled with a 'y').

I am a born-again Christian. I trusted Jesus Christ as my Savior when I was eight in the way I knew how at the time, which was asking Him into my heart. I did this on the top bunk in my cousins' bedroom in Germany, with my aunt leading me through the Romans Road. That evening I had heard a hell-fire and brimstone message at their church, and I knew I was going to hell. I did not want to go there, and I knew Jesus was the Way, the Truth, and the Life out of that punishment for my sins. From then on, I knew He was in my heart, but because my family and I did not attend church regularly, I did not live a Christian life, or rather, I did not know how to live a Christian life.

At the age of 23 (or thereabouts), the heaviness of my sinful choices weighed me down so much that the only way "up" was kneeling at a church altar where I confessed to the Lord, "I am making a mess of my life, but if you still want it, you can have it." In a still small voice, Jesus whispered, "Trust Me."

My life has never been the same.

Today, I am a wife and mommy. I was married at the age of 37 and had my baby girl just shy of 39. This, after so many bittersweet years of being single and waiting for the one God would bring along my path. (Ladies, I am so glad I waited!)

I am an army brat and have moved around all my life. I am a returned Peace Corps volunteer to Romania where I taught Conversational English, Modern Literature, Creative Writing, US Geography and History (I was so not qualified to teach these!), and US Culture. I am a Journalism major from Cal Poly Technical University in San Luis Obispo, Calif. I also consider myself a writer and a photographer (unless otherwise stated, the pictures in this blog are taken by me).

Morro Bay, California, is probably my favorite place on earth ... with the exception of being in the center of God's will.

And that's just a little bit about me.
